Approaching 8 Billion

According to United Nations estimates, the human population of the world is expected to reach 8 billion people in the spring of 2024. In the 20th century alone, the human population grew from 1.65 billion to 6 billion. The population in the world is currently (as of 2015-2016) growing at a rate of around 1.13% per year. The average population change is currently estimated at around 80 million per year. (www.worldometers.info)


Big numbers – big consequences

Are we on the edge, the tipping point where our planet can take no more? That thought or question provided the idea for the beach artwork installation, Approaching 8 Billion.

Our influence on the natural environment is without a doubt changing our planet at a faster rate than any time in human history.

I believe we all need to think about the impact we are having on our world. We need to act more responsibly and reduce the strain we put on or our planet. It seems like a no-brainer to me. I wonder what you think?
