Holding On

This artwork piece came about by observing the industrious spiders that work alongside me in my workshop. Every day the spiders create fantastic intricate webs to catch their prey.

Spiders silk is a protein fibre silk, the tensile strength is comparable to that of high-grade alloy steel. Because I work with steel every day, I have created a tribute to my friends the spiders. They are a reminder to me about the beauty, ruthlessness and strength of natural world and how something that seems so fragile is so strong. Long live the spiders.
